Message from our Chairman:
To all CWB players and supporters,
As this season draws to a close I would firstly like to express my thanks to all those involved with the running and operation of the club this season. We fielded 3 mens and 2 womens teams and whilst it was not our most successful season in terms of trophies we can be proud of the spirit and commitment shown throughout the club both on the field and off.
I would like to mention the contributions of 2 individuals in particular for doing so much to move the club forwards. Firstly, Junior Sua who as our Phoenix coach will be stepping down after 3 very successful seasons with the womens' squad. Junior will be greatly missed by the Phoenix.
Secondly we must say a very big thank you to Sam Pinder who as Head Coach has worked tirelessly to build and improve the Rams during the season. Having taken a leap of faith to move all the way from Scotland with his wife Anna and young daughter Abbie he has become an integral part of the club over the season and I am sure that every player who has worked with him would agree that they have benefited hugely from his experience, analysis, commitment and enthusiasm. We have recently changed Sam's role to that of Director of Rugby for CWB which means that he will have a wider range of responsibilities including player recruitment, overseeing the coaching and development structure throughout the club and creating a clear pathway for players at CWB from the juniors through to the elite level.
Sam has presented a detailed plan to take the club forwards to be a genuine force at all levels of rugby in Hong Kong. It is exciting and ambitious but clearly not something that can be achieved by one individual in isolation so if Sam asks for your help and support to deliver the plan then please be prepared to give it. |
Sponsorship News

Eden Park, the French designer clothing label, has recently opened up at 301 Lee Gardens, Causeway Bay and have agreed to sponsor 2 end of season awards for us - Players Player of the Year and Club Man of the Year Award - as well as a monthly Club Player award next Season. The end of year awards winners will receive a bottle of Eden Park Champagne, $500 voucher and VIP status for a year entitling them to 30% off full price purchases in the shop. The Club Player of the month will receive a $500 voucher.
They have also offered all our Club Players VIP status of 20% off full price purchases in the shop.
For those of you who are not au fait with the brand, Eden Park was was born in 1987 and the founders are real rugby players from one of the most prestigious sporting clubs in the world: The Racing Club de France. Racing club needed its spirit reviving and a talented group of players did just that in the early 1980’s. They combined great performances with eccentricity in their matches in order to put some fun into the game and take rugby out of its Parisian anonymity. Their famous antics included wearing pink bow ties when they played against Agen in the French Grand Final and sipping champagne at half time.
Because of its unique rugby credentials Eden Park has become closely associated with some of Europe’s greatest rugby teams. Eden Park’s style and the familiar pink bow tie have become synonymous with top level rugby. The National teams of France, Wales and Scotland are all currently dressed by Eden Park as were the British and Irish Lions in 2001 and 2005.

Our Club
Causeway Bay Rugby Football Club's purpose is to foster
greater participation and enjoyment of rugby among
Hong Kong's local Chinese population.
The
Causeway Bay Rugby Football Club was founded in 1988 as a development
side. Originally an all-Chinese team, CWB Rams began to recruit
expatriate players in 1992 and debuted in the second division
in 1994. The Club's development has accelerated since then.
In
1995 we were able to field a second side, CWB Pirates. Entering
into the Club's 10th year, we were proud to introduce the
CWB Phoenix in the women's league in 1997.
In
2002 we were able to field a third side, CWB Marines. We introduced
the junior CWB Pheasants in the School League.
In 2004 we were proud to introduce CWB in the first division.
Most of the players of the team were local Chinese players
and Asians.
In 2008 the women's side was able to field a second team, for ten's competition.
Currently Causeway Bay Rugby Football Club fields teams to compete in 15's 10's and 7's rugby.
